The Top 5 Most Hilarious Gaffes by Joe Biden
5 “Buy a Shotgun!”
While fielding questions submitted by readers of “Parents” magazine, Joe Biden went off on a brief rant saying that people who were upset about gun control measures should just go out and “Buy a shotgun … buy a shotgun!” That’s right, he said it twice. Biden tried to explain that he meant people didn’t need assault rifles and high capacity clips for personal safety, but ultimately came off as a man both supporting gun control and gun ownership all in one garbled speech.
4 Russia Is a Declining Power?
In the summer of 2009, the Obama administration was working to “reset” relations with the Russian Federation with Secretary of State Hilary Clinton out in front leading the charge. But VP Biden threw a monkey wrench into the whole process by casually deeply insulting the entirety of Russia. He called Russia a declining power with a “withering economy” and a failed banking system. Now that it’s four years later, tell that to the Syrian rebels, held at bay by a Russian-backed Syrian regime.
3 Biden Is “Absolutely Comfortable” With It
This is an example of the exact right message delivered at the wrong time. In early 2012, during a TV interview, Vice President Biden announced that he was “absolutely comfortable” with equal marriage rights for same-sex couples. Congratulations! Well said! We support you 100 percent! Except that you really, really should have waited until the president announced his own “evolved” views on marriage equality, Mr. VP, rather than making an offhand comment that was seen as influencing administration policy before it was officially declared.
2 “Folks, I Can Tell You I’ve Known Eight Presidents, Three of Them Intimately.”
Oh, Joe … Joe … Joe … that is NOT what you meant to say! While speaking at a Detroit area high school during the summer of 2012, Mr. Biden meant to make a comment about his long career spent working closely with multiple American heads of state, but instead he intimated that he had shared decidedly more personal than professional relationships with several presidents.
1 “This Is a Big Fu–Ing Deal!”
In typical Biden fashion, passion got a hold of the Veep as the landmark Affordable Care Act, AKA Obamacare, passed into law. Just before President Obama stepped before a microphone to speak about the legislation he had just signed into law, Joe leaned into the President’s ear and dropped the F-bomb heard around the world. Biden was right, of course: passage of the ACA was a huge deal! He just should have cursed more quietly, or instead said: “Hey, kudos to you.”
